Paul S. Ryan, Executive Director of the NYC Campaign Finance Board, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday to share updates about the city’s public matching funds program as it relates to the mayoral race.

“We take very seriously the responsibility of making sure that only candidates who meet all the requirements [and] all the restrictions of the program get these public funds,” Ryan said.

He added: “We require that contributors actively confirm that they’re making the contribution of their own accord, or in another language, in plain language, that they’re not straw donors.”

The New York City Matching Funds Program uses public funds to match small contributions at an 8-to-1 rate, which gives New Yorkers more of a say in local elections.
